There are a lot of bands that go for that "oh yeah, we're really terrifying even if we're not playing metal" thing and most bands don't really pull it off and sound like total babies. The Brass don't sound like babies. They sound like death, and even when the poppy sensibilities of "Standing on my Head, Shitting in my Mouth" or the slower ambient moments of "Four" show up, they're always pummeled to hell by some explosive terror later on. If this is just a demo, then I guess I'm scared to death of what a full-scale The Brass effort is gonna show off.

I've been hearing a lot about Good Luck and our paths have crossed personally quite a few times, but when I finally got a chance to see them at Harvest of Hope this year I was really blown away - enough to miss the first fifteen minutes of KRS-One even. Way after Good Luck played that night, I was drunk and passing out in the back of the van and Mike came up to me, rubbed my sleeping bag and kept saying "Let's get you out of those wet clothes." It was one of the weirdest/most amazing things anyone has ever said to anyone, and even though I've told like a hundred people about that it is still pretty awesome and scary. This is before "Into Lake Griffy" came out and I imagine they are playing for hundreds of kids at every show these days, or at least they should be.

Ever since this video, whenever I see Cheap Girls they no longer wear matching plaid shirts. Guess they're getting self-conscious. I know everyone seems to love the 1990's again these days but there's something about Cheap Girls that really sets them apart from the pack. Case in point, one time I saw them play at a bar in Brooklyn where no one really seemed that interested in anything. After about two songs however, people seemed to be coming in from out of nowhere because they were just so damn good. This acoustic version is also awesome because of DOUBLE GUITARS.

Real nice guys, real good demo. Their friend Dan from Philidealphia hardcore band Paint it Black jumped on the mic for this deep album cut.

So we spent about a month on tour with Lemuria and they had a wonderful lad named Pat Bolger selling their merchandise for them. Quickly Pat became one of our favorite people on the tour and even became the impetus for a stencil that Bomb the Music Industry! used for about six months. Often times we would just spraypaint his face on people's shirts without even our name on it. These people would get kinda bummed but we didn't care. So Laura Stevenson keeps telling me that she can't picture Pat without thinking of this skit, so I watched it and it was hilarious as she said. The delivery on "yahoo search engine... her" is completely genius. We miss you Pat!

Laura almost NEVER plays this jam anymore and it's a shame because it's really good. This is also fun to watch because I guess it was before Dave had any lights or at least the lights that he uses now so it looks way different than all the other stuff on here. If I'm not mistaken, this was also the very first Pink Couch Session. And for even more entertainment, watch Can Alex Billig be thrilled during the entire thing.

This is fun for two reasons. 1. I have no idea how Carly plays piano like that and sings at the same time. 2. I can see my roommate Nathan wearing glasses and singing along right behind her during the entire thing. Hey Nathan!

Something that you guys may or may not understand is that Dave is like six foot six. Maybe that's why he can always get decent videos of the bands playing. I have no idea how he did it this day. I went to this show a few days after New Year's and it was dangerously dangerously packed in there. After standing behind an entranceway for about an hour not seeing anything I unfortunately had to leave without seeing Cheeky, who are the best punk rock band to come out of New York in years and years and years. I said goodbye to Dave and he said "Yeah, it's kinda crazy in there I'll probably leave too." Then he gets this amazing video of Cheeky as if he has all the room in the world to stand. STEADY HANDS, DUDE!

Boy was I glad that we finally got a chance to play with these guys. This was at the end of a very long Asian Man Tour, and the night before we played with the same bands and half of our band got wasted/sick/pissed and quit, one person even on stage. So going into this one with several less people than usual, it made things a lot less stressful to spend the day bowling and then watching one of my favorite bands play one of my favorite songs with people from one of my favorite groups of friends ever, Lemuria. We miss you, The Ergs!

As mentioned above, the Asian Man Tour was awesome (was that not mentioned above.) Although the solos were probably a bit much as always, it's really nice to watch this video and remember all those buddies and how well we all got along! And here's a fun fact: our guitar player Tom is playing out Joe Queer's guitar cabinet. Those things were really weird looking, they were covered in metal all over. However they weighed almost NOTHING and they sounded really great! Who woulda thunk it!

This has the best editing in any video ever on If You Make It. I also know that whenever my girlfriend goes out for the night me and my buddies love to listen to Jimmy Eat World and crank that motherfuckin' thermostat UP!

When I was on tour in Ireland, I had the pleasure of secretly meeting Ellie from Heathers as she and two other friends heroically sat with my heavy guitar case on their laps in the back seat without knowing that she was in Heathers which is one of the sweetest bands! Not sweet like cute, sweet like SWEEEEEET! I heard from someone that they were fifteen or sixteen when they wrote these songs, which really kills me 'cause to think of the bullshit I wrote when I was fifteen. Anyway, I actually wanted to do this "favorites" thing solely so I could recommend this awesome band to people who didn't know about them, then I just plain' ol' forgot. Here it is: two Irish twin sisters singing one of their many beautiful soul crushing songs. Damn.
