Street Smart Cyclist-Hoods Up
Make Music Fest NY was one of the best shows I attended last summer. The McCarren Park show with SSC and others was like watching a more DIY/indie rock Warped Tour (loud music, heat and dirt). This was the first and only time I got to see Street Smart Cyclist and the energy they conveyed at that show is perfectly captured on this video performance. Plus, my friend/neighbor Marcus is clearly visible during the sweet pile on towards the end, making this video even more awesome.

Good Luck-1001 Open Hands
Good Luck's "Into Lake Griffy" is a fantastic record, and this video of one of my favorite tracks from it is great. Vocals and instruments are spot on and crystal clear.

Attica! Attica!-Hobo Chili
Aaron Scott is a tremendous live performer with an unmistakable voice. I heard him play this new song at every one of his shows I attended last summer, so to have it recorded live from Dave's pink couch is a treat.

Look Mexico-You Ever Get Punched In the Face for Talking Too Much?
Look Mexico are one of my favorite bands and some of the most fun dudes I've met. Great acoustic performance of one of their best tracks.

Fellow Project-A horse that races or a racing horse?
I love Fellow Project and this song/performance is fantastic. That's all I can say.

Slingshot Dakota-Waiting Room
This was also from Make Music NY and when Slingshot debuted their now semi-famed Fugazi cover, which has to be one of the most fun, energetic and bouncy covers I've heard by any band. I was psyched to hear it at that show and subsequent shows since then, but even more to have this captured on video.

Thousandaires-Land Seal Demo
Three rad songs from this supergroup of sorts and it really does sound like a blend of all their other bands.

Propagandhi-Fuck the Border
Dan Yemin is one of my favorite musical personalities so getting to hear him sing this song live with Propagandhi was fucking rad, especially two days in a row. Thanks Dave for getting this on video!

The Brass-Demo
I was very excited to see Jay formerly of On The Might of Princes (one of my favorite vocalists of the screamy variety) surface in this band. These four songs are frantic, loud and chaotic. I want to learn the words and then yell them at the top of my lungs from rooftops... or at least sing along with The Brass at their shows.

Iron Chic-Hunger Strike
I really wish I had been there to witness Iron Chic play this song. They're now the second band I've known to do a "Hunger Strike" cover live and they certainly did it quite well. This video is entertaining to watch for the song, and also on a personal level for me as I can point out a number of people I know in it (and then writhe with jealousy towards them that I couldn't be at this show).

Barrie Cohn-runs Generic Insight Radio

Barrie Cohn

runs Generic Insight Radio

Hi, I'm Barrie, nice to meet you. I do lot of things. Most notable of such things being: a weekly live radio program on the interwebs called Generic Insight Radio, I write for What We Hate webzine, I book shows in NYC (some of which can viewed on the Events page of IYMI), I do press/publicity for some small bands and I've also got a print zine in the works with someone else. None of this pays the bills but keeps me busy enough.

When I was asked to do a favorites list, I was both flattered and overwhelmed by such a task. I never got through all the videos and song files and found myself really enjoying a good chunk of what's up on the site. Picking and choosing favorites to be on a list was daunting and took a hell of a long time to decide which ones I liked the most (not to mention narrowing them down to make it look as small as possible). In the end, these won out over the rest. Admittedly, some of the ones I chose are pretty popular favorites it seems... but I guess that just means they're good, right?
