Deathrats - s/t 7"

Deathrats played in Brooklyn recently and I was able to pick up their first 7". I'm horrible at describing hardcore bands but they're a new-ish hardcore punk band from Washington DC and they're awesome. Go get this!

Bad Banana - Crushfield

Allison and Katie Crutchfield (from P.S. Elliott) have done it AGAIN and written amazing indie pop/punk songs that I can't get enough of. Katie's voice has got guts, and doesn't let this fall into cutesy-shoegaze-y territory. If you like things like P.S. Elliott, Witches, or Talulah Gosh, you will fall in love with this, or at least put it on a tape for someone you're falling for. Great, now the hook from "Pretty Like a Girl" is stuck in my head.

Caves debut LP

Caves features Lou from the defunct UK poppunk band Flamingo 50 and they've put out a 7" (out of press!) and a split 10" so far. Driving, tough, poppunk and it's some of the UK's finest by far, in my opinion. I was lucky enough to catch their set at Fest 9 and this has got to be my most anticipated record of 2011. Her vocals are my favorite out of any poppunk band around, period. Check these folks out and get really excited for the record.

Lesley Gore - You Don't Own Me

With the current surge of jangly, reverbbed-out lady vocals, I keep thinking of (and loving) a lot of their influences. Check out Lesley Gore being a tough gal in 1964.

Is there anything that we missed this week? Let us know in the comments. Next Monday's post will be by Pat Schramm of Daytrader/Bridge & Tunnel. Stay tuned!
